A brisk start by the
Crudwell openers saw them reach 61 before the fall
of the first wicket. With 55 runs on the board in
the first 10 overs it took a great effort, led by
Tricky Blundell (2 for 29), to retain the initiative
for the home team. With Stuart Gilchrist (35) and
young Freddie Richardson (31) leading the way with
the bat, Crudwell moved towards a large total on the
fast outfield at the Arena. Key bowling changes
turned the game toward the home side, with Glen
Crompton (2 for 13) proving nigh on unplayable in a
cameo bowling performance. Some good work at the
church end saw Mark Larner take the final 4 wickets
of the innings, with Crudwell posting a total of 179
all out.
The Rams' reply
started well with Ritchie Blackmore (22) and
Crompton (65) taking the attack to the bowlers, but
the game was won by John Robson (29) and Richard
Blundell (30), ensuring the scoring rate never
faltered. Another couple of wickets fell as
Northleach moved towards their target, and it was T
Murner who stole the show by taking the required 13
runs from one over to seal a fine win for the home
team.
