Andy Wellman and Glen Crompton were the stars of a sound Northleach
team effort on Saturday, as they ran out convincing
winners of this rain-affected CDCA Division 3 match.
Batting first, the Rams were under constant pressure as
Sam Price and young Jack Roberts bowled an excellent
line, and the Northleach score had reached just 57 for 2
at the mid-way break. Following a lengthy rain interval,
the in-form Wellman (26) took to the task and, ably
supported by young Tom Hemming (19), moved the score
towards the 100 mark before both players fell in quick
succession. With only 8 overs left Crompton came to the
crease, chanced his luck and battered a fine 58no to set
a total of 166 for 5, reduced to a target of 103 from 25
overs for the home side.
With both Wellman (5 for 37) and Crompton (4 for 19) in great form
with the ball, the home innings never got going, with
only Jack Roberts (17) and father Steve Roberts (15)
reaching double figures. The fielding of the Northleach
side was outstanding, with a fine running catch being
taken by Tom Hemming to dismiss the dangerous Kibble,
and an outstanding run out combination by Wellman and
Rich Hall. The Charlton side were dismissed for just 57,
well short of their revised target of 102. |
