Many thanks to Glen Crompton who, over the past ten years or so, has been responsible for creating and maintaining the NTCC website. He has now decided to relinquish this task meaning somebody else gets
lumbered to take over. The options were limited – either me (Flam) or Tango Tone, I got the job (obviously)!
It will, over time include fixtures, results, photos, etc.
Great news! We have been accepted into the CDCA Saturday league AND will re-enter into division two!
Chedworth are leaving the league to play in the Gloucestershire County League and Andoversford have decided to move to the Cheltenham League. This left some gaps in Division Two; based on the strength of our previous sides, the CDCA committee offered to move us into division two if we were happy we could compete at that level – obviously the answer was yes!
Northleach Town Cricket Club are to apply to rejoin the CDCA Saturday league again after two years away. The chairman, back 2013, went through the reasons leading up to our decision to leave the league giving the club time to refocus and rebuild, well the foundations are now in place!
Several senior players will form the nucleus of the team (Glen, Flam, Tango Tone, etc.), we have managed to recruit some previous stars (Harold – yes I am talking about you), junior talent looks very promising, we are likely to see the odd appearance from former players and we hope others will also join us.
Here’s the sad bit, we bid farewell to our Chairman, Dickie Hemming; he has now donned the lycra, spent vast amounts of money on his equipment and can now been seen along the lonely back roads of the Cotswolds. Dickie…it has been an experience and a pleasure!
10th April 2013 – An Important Message from the Chairman
Northleach Town Cricket Club has been in existence for many years within the town, playing social friendly matches and, since the 2001 season, involved in local league competitions. There are many people within Northleach and the surrounding area who have either played or supported the club in many varied and wonderful ways over the years, whether that be dynamic bowling, dramatic batting, or merely cheering on from the boundary and attending the many social functions.
As with all long-standing ventures there are times of highs and lows, affecting both on- and off-field activities and we are no different from many other cricket clubs around the Cotswolds and indeed the UK in general when I say that players are, at times, hard to come by.
This is one of those times, and it is unfortunately our turn to be one of several local clubs currently undergoing difficulties to attract and retain enough players to be confident of turning out a competitive side every league Saturday.
It is with great regret, therefore, that I must announce our decision to withdraw from the CDCA Division 2 league fixtures for the forthcoming season, but we will remain passionate members of the CDCA forums and be involved in all local cricket developments.
On a more positive note, I can confirm that we intend to increase the number of friendly matches for the season, probably up to 8 games to be played mainly on Sundays, but may include weekday games versus touring opposition. As always your support for the team will be most welcome and players of all ages and abilities will be gladly accepted into the fold. We have committed to a return to league cricket within the next few years, and will continue to work hard to establish sufficient numbers and a structure to deliver this is in the shortest possible time.
We also aim to maintain our social presence within local circles, including the Charter Fair BBQ, and plan to establish monthly social events for players and supporters alike … please come along and join us for a 20/20 cricket tv match at the Northleach Pavilion, or for a curry.
Just watch this website and Facebook for details …
Lastly, I would like to thank for you all for your support for the club over recent years as we have strived to achieve success for the club and raise the profile of the town … local business sponsorship, Charter Fair BBQ, advertising banners, Friday Fun Cricket for local juniors, running 2 league sides, raising monies for local hostelries, to name just a few innovations during the past few years.
Richard Hemming, Chairman (April 2013)
