Northleach Town Cricket Club v North Cerney Cricket Club
Northleach, bowling first on slow track, were put to the sword by James Buse, who, in typical style belted the ball to every corner of the ground. By the 13 over, when he was bowled by Glen Crompton, the score had amassed to 113 runs.
From that point forward the Northleach bowlers took control; Jake Whitworth, making his league debut, turned in fine figures of 2-27 with Crompton 2-34 and Stuart Hobbs 3-23 being the other notable wicket takers.
The Northleach innings started steadily with Giles Wellman, another debutant, making a fine 23 before the arrival of Glen Crompton. Crompton’s early form, after nearly two years away from the game, was shaky, dropped three times, once from a no-ball. However his timing eventually returned and he treated the crowd to some fine, powerfully hitting which threatened the allotment holders on several occasions. He was eventually out for 95 being with a diving catch by Saunders at mid-wicket.
The rest was left to Tony Gardner and John Robson to steer Northleach through to a hard won, first league victory on our return to the CDCA.
Well done boys!
